SEE HOW THEY RUN IS A CLASSIC COMEDY

See How They Run by Philip King will open at Masquers’ Jeanette Jolly Theater Building on May 11.  The director, Eric Van Woert, also directed Li’l Abner last fall.

“When the cast asked me about this play,” says Eric, “ I said,…um … um, well it is just the craziest show you will see in awhile.  It is visually funny. Some shows have visual comedy or quick dialogue.  This one has both.  Mostly, I would say, it is delightful chaos.  I love it, and I know the audience will too.”

One of the original and best of the twentieth century English comedies See How They Run was first staged at the Comedy Theatre in London during the World War II. With four vicars and a bishop famously making an appearance on stage at the same time, this is the original ‘English Vicar’ play. It went on to provide the inspiration for that much-loved TV comedy, Dad’s Army.

Reverend Lionel Toop, played by Darryl Pheasant has a little more than he can handle in his lively young actress wife, Penelope (Stephanie Moore).

Cheri Barbre plays Miss Skillon, a nosey spinster from next door who becomes convinced that the wife of her beloved vicar is having an affair and attempts to expose her. Carea Kuhn plays the Maid, Ida who has her own peculiar take on things.  Adding to the confusion is an escaped Russian prisoner (Don Long), a handsome actor (Alex Buchmann), and the visiting Bishop of Lax, played by the always popular Bob Jasman.  Rounding out the cast are Bob Leonard and Sean Kuhn.

Both Cheri Barbre and Bob Jasman have proven to be reliable and hilarious comedic actors.  They were together in Anything Goes.  Eric Van Woert has worked with both of them enough to understand their enormous capabilities, and how to get the best from them.

Performances are scheduled for 8PM Fridays and Saturdays, May 11-12, 18-19, 25-26 and June 1-2.  Sunday matinees will be at 3PM on May 20 and June 3.  All tickets are $10.  For reservation call the theater at 246-2611.

Experience the excitement of opening night.  Meet the actors!  Ask for group rates and bring your colleagues, friends, etc.
