Kim Angelis, internationally acclaimed violin virtuoso and composer, with Josef Gault accompanying her on guitar, will perform in concert on Friday, February 3 at 7:30 P.M. Angelis is known for her exuberant free-spirited performances and for breaking traditional musical boundaries with her own mix of classical and multi-cultural music liberally flavored with Gypsy passion. You can check it out on www.skysong.com

After graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of California, Irvine, where she studied with the best violinists in the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Kim met and later married Josef Gault, who introduced her to World music.

“Josef really broadened my outlook,” she says. “One hundred years ago music was confined to the areas in which it developed. But today, with modern recording, we are able to listen to music from every different culture. I like to collect the sonic images evoked, and write a new ‘world chamber music’.”

Kim’s music in the independent film, Sweet Nothings was nominated for Best Original Score by the California Independent Film Society, and for Best Score by the International Independent Film Tour. She also wrote and played the score for the award-winning documentary, Saviors of the Forest.

“….Tuck a violin under her chin and this otherwise slight and shy artist becomes a powerful, scintillating, dancing presence, somewhere on the continuum between the spirituality of a fiddler on the roof and the ecstatic mysticism of a Sufi dancer." -Len Atkins, Seaview, WA

This will be the first concert of the Masquers' 2006 season, and the first since the new sound board was installed in the Jolly Theater.  Since this is an intimate venue with a limited seating capacity, it would be a good idea to call the Masquers’ box office at 246-2611 for reservations.
